Recap - July 4th 2019 Spreckels Parade

On Thursday, July 4th, bright and early for Simon and Nikki, we met at Starbucks in Salinas.  There were 8 cars, new members and veterans, from as far away as Sacramento. We also had two children and two dogs (Milo and Dirk) joining in the fun.

We left Starbucks and what should have been a short drive to our destination of Spreckels, became an almost hour long wait, because we were stopped at a barricade the organizers had set up to keep cars off the road while the 5K and 10K racers were running their race.  Fortunately, they let us pull onto the road into town and park with a couple of classic cars also waiting to be in the parade.  We were finally able to pull into the parking lot and everyone hurried to decorate their cars.

We had everything from float fringe, flags, rockets, window clings, garland, bunting and streamers to a giant inflatable George Washington.  We were able to strategically arrange our cars with a red one, two whites and two blues in the middle of our procession, showing off our patriotic spirit.  The highlight of our group was our flagbearer, Oliver Tildesley, looking quite dapper in a red, white and blue tutu, cowboy hat and streamers.   As we made our way on the parade route the longtime announcer introduced each car, butchering all our names.   There were hundreds of children and Iā€™m pretty sure everyone ran out of candy before making it to the end.

A few of us picnicked in the park and kicked back for a few hours before heading for home.   All in all, it was a great way to have fun with our Minis and hang out with our Mini friends for the holiday.

Vickie & Mick and DIRK of course!

PS: The next run is coming quickly on July 13th and 14th. Fort Bragg and Avenue of the Giants hosted by Larry Anderson.
