Reconsider Auto Insurance Through AARP

Kicking Tires reports that Bloomberg News investigated AARP's auto insurance endorsement program and found a plethora of shady practices that have some members paying double for AARP-backed insurance versus other plans. Apparently part of the premium for AARP endorsed insurance coverage goes to AARP as "royalties" or "fees." These fees, according to the report, accounted for 43% of AARP's revenue in 2007.

We find it is always best to obtain your auto insurance through an independent insurance broker who can shop the entire market no matter how old you are.
