Canada Requires MINI To Recall Over 6,400 MINIs

Sympatico.ca Autos advises that 6,409 MINI turbos have been recalled in Canada, as required by Transport Canada, due to water pump failures that could cause a fire.  The article says,
The auxiliary water pump is used to cool down the car's turbocharger once the car is off. It may fail and overheat, possibly starting a fire.

About 6,409 MINI Coopers are affected in Canada, specifically the MINI Cooper S from model years 2007 through 2011; the MINI Cooper S Clubman from 2008 through 2011; the MINI Cooper S Convertible from 2009, 2010 and 2011; and the MINI Cooper S Countryman from model year 2011.

All MINI John Cooper Works cars – the base, Clubman and Convertible – from model years 2009, 2010 and 2011 are also affected.

If you own one of these cars, please park it outside until your auxiliary water pump has been replaced. Your dealer will perform the repair.
